What happens when children with special needs step into a professional kitchen alongside renowned chefs? Magic. "Little Chefs meets Big Chefs" is IHHAA's flagship culinary healing event — an annual gathering that uses food as a universal language of connection, confidence, and joy.

The Concept

Children and young adults with special needs are paired one-on-one with professional chefs to prepare a dish together. The focus is not on the food — it is on the process. The measuring, the stirring, the tasting, the shared laughter when things go sideways. Every action is a sensory experience: texture, aroma, taste, temperature, and the pride of creation. For many participants, this is the first time they have been handed responsibility in a kitchen, and the confidence that emerges is extraordinary.

Why Culinary Arts?

Cooking engages all five senses simultaneously — making it one of the most complete multisensory experiences available. For children managing autism, ADHD, or developmental challenges, the structured yet creative nature of cooking provides both comfort and stimulation. The kitchen becomes a therapeutic space where success is measured not in Michelin stars, but in smiles.
